Giorgio Armani has been named the official sponsor of the Novak Djokovic Foundation and Friends. The charity gala dinner will take place in Milan on September 20 as part of a three-day event that will also host a lineup of celebrity tennis matches.
Serena Williams and Flavia Pennetta will kick off the event’s first match, followed by the participation of Fabio Fognini, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
The charity gala, which will be held at the historical Castello Sforzesco, is said to coincide with the start of Milan Fashion Week.
A silent auction will feature some items donated by Djokovic and other special guests. Since 2007, the tennis star’s foundation has already provided over 10,000 children the opportunity to receive an education, and lent a hand in building or repurposing some 18 schools and training more than 600 teachers.
Armani recently announced that instead of closing this season’s Milan Fashion Week as he has done previously for years, he will present his collection for Spring/Summer 2017 mid-Milan Fashion Week. The designer has regularly expressed his frustration at being the only major designer to close Milan Fashion Week in many years.
The designer even famously took to the press to criticize Anna Wintour for giving his show the cold-shoulder.
“There are some who prefer to snub the Giorgio Armani show and go to Paris,” he said. “They told me she went to see the Privé in Paris; she has no time to see the ready-to-wear in Milan.”
