A$AP Rocky is no stranger to style, being himself a purveyor of bold fashion and eclectic tastes, and the American rapper will be putting on a more couture persona as he joins three other new faces of the latest campaign for Dior Homme.
Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche loves the rapper’s personal style, describing Rocky as a “real fashion lover”.
“He feels like fashion really influences his own work, and he has strong opinions on that,” said Assche.
The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, regaled the WWD about his affection for both formal and edgy brands.
“I mean, it’s dope when you can mix it,” he said. “It’s all about taking two worlds like streetwear and high-end and kind of mashing them together. But when it comes to Dior, it’s just prestige and elegance in my opinion. It’s almost like Coco Chanel was for the lady.”
Joining Rocky as the maison’s new faces are model Dylan Roques, filmmaker Larry Clark and young French actor Rod Paradot. The latest campaign by Assche will be photographed by Willy Vanderperre.
Van Assche said that he selects faces for his campaign based on “talents that inspire” him, no matter the “different universes and different countries” they come from.
But the one thing that links all four men, explains Van Assache, is a “rebellion side”, a sort of subversive persona. “I also think of them as being free spirits,” he adds.
