Rolls-Royce has created a truly haute new way to travel in style: its new luggage collection inspired by the Rolls-Royce Wraith.
The collection, created by Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer, Michael Bryden, consists of two Grand Tourer valises, three Long Weekender bags and one Garment Carrier. Designed to specifically highlight its two-tone finish, the collection complements the design principles of the Wraith itself and enables customers with the opportunity to personalize their luggage to match the interior of their car, with customized hand-stitching done by master craftsmen (who wore white gloves to do so in order to preserve the leather, no less). Winning!
The design of the luggage collection was inspired by insights from head butlers at some of the world’s most respected hotels, who noticed that frequent and accomplished travelers rarely handled their own luggage. Only one small bag is usually handled by the owner. Because of this, the company paid particular attention to the Long Weekender bag that features even weight distribution and a perfectly smooth finish on the handle.
Rapid prototyping was used in the development of the Long Weekender to test the ergonomics of the handle, making this bag absolutely effortless to carry. Subtle references to the marque can be found in the form of the discrete fastenings, which magnetically dock, providing awesome resistance in the form of aerospace-grade aluminium. Carbon fiber makes the bags durable, while a wide-set handle and high-sided design make them easy to stow on planes, trains and automobiles.
The Garment Carrier, a sleek and slim-lined addition that sits seamlessly atop the Long Weekenders and Grand Tourers, has been designed specifically to hold fancy frocks or tuxedos; it’s totally black-tie friendly. A loop for a silk tie or scarf is thoughtfully incorporated as well.
The bags, which are meant to mimic the Wraith in design and structure, are seriously easy to wheel through airports or through high-end hotels yourself thanks to self-righting wheel centers (on the Grand Tourer). The strategically placed wheels, specially designed on a wide track to provide a high level of stability, provide an effortless transfer from ground to luggage compartment, ensuring the bag glides into position seamlessly into your car’s trunk. The Spirit of Ecstasy, the flying lady figurine that graces each and every Rolls-Royce hood, is also present on each piece of luggage: you’ll find her elegantly embossed onto the exterior of each bag.
