Katy Perry was an unexpectedly prominent force at the Golden Globes Sunday night, cavorting with Jennifer Lawrence on the E! pre-show, providing In-N-Out for best-actress winner Brie Larson, and generating next-day headlines for sharing a vape pen (and dancing to Justin Timberlake) with Orlando Bloom. And Perry’s Globes ensemble (anchored by a rose-quartz Prada dress)—which a stylist put together on just five days’ notice—landed her plaudits for a slightly more elegant look than we might be used to from the pop star.
Her hair, though, was bold and brash and very Perry. Per her stylist for the event, Leslie Fremar, Perry “wanted her hair to be a little rock ’n’ roll,” which was the inspiration for her Snooki-esque coif. As for whether an actual Bumpit was involved in creating the effect, well, it’s something of a mystery (Netflix is definitely going to be green-lighting a 10-episode docuseries on this next). When Lawrence touched Perry’s hair on the pre-show, Perry referred to it as an “as-seen-on-TV Bumpit” and it has widely been reported as such, though People described Perry’s comment as a “joke.”
Not missing an opportunity for some promotion, the inventor of the Bumpit—Kelly Fitzpatrick Bennett—told TMZ that Perry’s Golden Globes look has “generated such insane interest” that now the Bumpit will be returning to stores for the first time in three years. (Bennett also said they’d be offering Perry a lifetime supply and making her the “face/hair” of the product.)
Meanwhile, with this, and potential vape-pen and In-N-Out endorsement deals, Perry’s Golden Globes night may have been a surprisingly lucrative one.
